Reed Quarry (Vulcan Materials, Inc.) - Grand Rivers, Kentucky (Livingston County)

Now the third largest limestone quarry in the world, the Reed Quarry operates 24 hours per day, producing between eight and ten million tons of stone per year. It is situated in the Mississippian Fort Payne Formation and the Warsaw and Salem Limestone units. The lowest point in Kentucky is in the floor of the quarry, at 100 feet below sea level.
